HISTORY

Evelynne Alwazzan, known as Lynne,  was born on the 14th of December 1950 in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England to parents Robert “Bob” Smith and Lydia Joan Smith. Lynne was the eldest of three children –  her sister Norma and brother Kevin.

She went to Dunston Hill Infant and Junior School and from the age of eleven to fifteen she attended Dunston Comprehensive School. As a young child, Lynne loved swimming, cookery classes and loved sewing. She was a quiet but very caring which is a sign of God’s plan in her life in the future. About the age of thirteen or fourteen, she became more assertive, more active and became an avid watcher of theater plays at Dunston Community Centre. Also, she listened to music a lot and most of all, she loved fashion.

After school, Lynne moved to London and worked in various jobs. Eventually, she moved to Brighton and worked in a language school where she met the love of her life Abdul Rahman Alwazzan. The rest was history.

She came to Bahrain in October of 1977 to support her soulmate, her loving and ever supportive husband Abdul Rahman Alwazzan. She helped in the everyday business of International Agencies Co. Ltd. (Intercol).  She was heavily involved in the many day-to-day operations and her presence in the affairs of the office and in the daily business of things was always felt across the company. She also did a lot of public relations (PR) work for the Intercol Group and was a major part of the corporate social responsibility program.

Moreover, she was the Charity Welfare Chairperson of the company from which she did the bulk of her social work. It was said that she represented the embodiment of the company’s soul and caring nature and she continued be to be a force that drove Intercol to go beyond its boundaries and reach out to those who are in need. Indeed, she did that and more.

In the 1990’s along with her best friend Jo Karimi, they established Bahrain’s first tea room, The Conservatory, a place she really loved as she could indulge her two favorite things, conversations and food. During this time she also developed her lifelong passion for charitable work, which continued up to her untimely death.

Lynne and Abdul Rahman are blessed with three children – Ali, Mahin, Hassan and six lovable grandchildren – Abdul Rahman, Mohammed; Hassan, Khalil; and Hessa and Baby Lynne respectively.

Her life of six decades has been dedicated only to giving and helping. Truly, she is one-of-a-kind and the type of person that she was is a beacon to a life worth living for. Even though she is gone, her shining example as a tireless worker of humanity will remain an inspiration for many people.
